Thermography has been used in the power industry for many years to safely detect defects in electrical equipment. Electrical energy generates heat as it moves through materials. The higher the resistance of a material (or a connection), the more heat that is generated by the electrical energy. This simple concept explains why thermal imaging plays such a critical role in finding and treating equipment failures and also improving the safety of electrical workers.

Electrical Transmission Line. The Ti30 is capable of detecting an overheated connection at a distance of more than 50 feet. While the user would need to get closer to accurately measure the temperature of this connection using the Ti30, it is quite apparent that a problem exists. The Ti30 provides a safe and easy means for identifying problems in the electrical power industry.

Electric Substation. This Ti30 identifies another possible defect, most likely caused by high resistance corrosion on the connector.
